This is a different sort of blog post…..
I was asked a few months ago what my “core beliefs” were. Has anyone ever asked you that question? It’s quite the rabbit hole to go down. It can get very philosophical which I’m unafraid to do but I thought it would be more interesting to simply keep a notebook of things that came to my mind as time went by. A list I suppose of beliefs or lessons I’ve learned.
You may agree or disagree. It’s my blog though so I’m sharing them nonetheless in hopes they make you think, smile a little, and question what yours are. That’s never a bad thing so here we are. I feel certain there will be a part 2 at some point.
“Beliefs”
-Apologies should never come with a disclaimer.
-You are responsible for how you act no matter how you feel.
-Aging gracefully is so much better than fighting it so hard that you turn into a caricature of your former self.
-Men after a certain age should stop going around shirtless (and highly likely in tank tops).
-Children never asked to be born, they come first. Always. You can be selfish when they grow up.
-Travel is education. You’ll never be sorry for the experience.
-People who want you in their lives will make time for you. They won’t wait hours to text back. They saw it, something else just took priority. Take note of who makes time for you. Treasure them.
-Speak your truth, do the right thing, even if everyone around you makes you makes you feel like you are wrong for it.
-Religion is great if you actually live by its basic principles and don’t use it as a cover.” Love one another” doesn’t just happen sitting in a pew on Sunday. We see you.
-Being able to admit you are wrong is a great strength.
-The damndest most unexpected people is your life will severely disappoint you as you walk your path. There will probably be a lot of them. Be ready for it but don’t let it jade you.
-The most surprising people will show up for you when the chips are down. Let them.
-We don’t all lose the same person at the funeral.
-Learning to let go is the hardest thing you ever have to do. There will always be something to let go of.
-Laughter is great medicine. I mean belly laughing. Find people who make you laugh.
-Do what’s unexpected. You only get one shot. It feels way better than you can imagine.
-Children don’t belong in the bar area of a restaurant. Seriously.
-Bad things happen to good people. Good things happen to bad people. It’s not about fairness. Carry
on.
-Never say, “Let me know if I can do anything” in a crisis situation. Just do something.
-Whether you return the grocery cart back to a safe location really does indicate what kind of human you are
-“No” without a diatribe of explanation is sufficient.
-No one plays the victim harder than the one who caused the damage.
-You will never be able to help people unless you talk to them and not at them.
-A well-made martini sets the world back on its proper axis.
